Central Texas has always attracted hard working individuals to its cities, farms and ranches. Early Austinites fought in the Texas Revolution, worked the Chisolm Trail, farmed cotton on the prairies and built a vibrant and beautiful city. Our tradition of hard work leaves us poised to prosper in the 21st Century. However, for many individuals caring and providing for a family is impossible because of a mental or physical disability.

Austin Social Security Lawyers Can Help

Fortunately for these people, SSI and SSDI exist as a safety net to provide some security and stability in their lives. For many disabled people in Austin, Social Security means the difference between regular room and board and fighting for a dry place to sleep in a park or alleyway. It can mean the difference between a hot meal every day and literally starving. When disability prevents people from providing for themselves, Social Security can help. If you or someone you love has a disability that prevents them from working, contact an Austin Social Security attorney today and find out if SS benefits can prevent them from losing home and security.

The Difference Between Winning Your SSI/SSDI Claim and Losing It

Increase your chances of winning your SSI/SSDI claim with an experienced Austin SSI attorney. Statistically, between 65% and 70% of initial applications are denied nationally. Winning your claim can mean the difference between homelessness and no medical care, and having a safety net of a monthly benefit payment and life-saving medical care. Getting a lawyer on your side that has a strong knowledge of how the Social Security Disability claims process works is critical.

In many cases, the disability that prevents a person from working can also prevent them from effectively making a claim for disability benefits. Individuals that live and operate in the shadows of Congress Avenue, often lack the skills necessary to prepare an appropriate claim form. Additionally, because the Social Security safety net is at risk for fraud by able individuals, the process is purposefully complicated and the standards rigid. An experienced Austin Social Security lawyer can help gather information and prepare claims so that an applicant can be successful the first time. Time is critical for the people at risk of falling through the cracks. Each passing day can bring new obstacles until even the helping hand of Social Security benefits is not enough to bring them back to a secure and safe lifestyle. An experienced Austin attorney familiar with the Social Security system can improve your chances of success. Consult a lawyer from Austin today.

How Much Does an Austin Social Security Lawyer Cost?

It can vary depending on your attorney. However, most SSI/SSDI attorneys charge a “contingency fee”, meaning they only get paid if you win your case. Fortunately, the government has limited how much a SSI/SSDI lawyers can charge as a contingency fee in most cases - to 25% of your back pay owed to you, up to a maximum of $6,000. About the Social Security System: What is it?

The social security system performs two primary functions: (1) it provides monthly payments to people who are unable to work because of a disability (SSDI & SSI), and (2) it provides retirement benefits.

  • “SSDI”, or Social Security Disability Income, is paid to people who are disabled, and who earned a sufficient amount of credit based on their past work history.
  • “SSI”, or Supplemental Security Income, is a program that pays adults or children who are disabled and unable to work, and who do not qualify for SSDI payments.

To qualify for either SSDI or SSI, the claimant must prove his/her injury prevents him from working. This can be very difficult to prove to the social security administration. It can be a big advantage to have an experienced Austin SSI/SSDI attorney on your side through the application and hearing process.

Living with a Disability

Many of us take for granted being able to work and enjoy our lives along the Colorado River. An evening at the Paramount is the closest we get to the homeless population along Congress Avenue. We forget that for many people on the edge the difference between walking along Guadalupe and becoming a “Dragworm” is a matter of a few dollars a day. For these people a productive work life with health care benefits at Dell or IBM is out of the question. But SSI and SSDI provide benefits when all other resources are exhausted, and can mean access to healthcare that is otherwise absent. Access to healthcare can help many people return to productive lives and care for themselves again. An experienced Social Security lawyer can be the last best chance before homelessness and all of its complications. It is why we have Social Security.

What Kind of Disability Qualifies Someone to Receive Social Security Benefits?

  • Sleep Disorders
  • Blood Disorders
  • Arthritis
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Back problems
  • Migraines
  • Cancer
  • Mental health problems: Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, PTSD Schizophrenia, Mental retardation
